FANGORIA TERROR TELETYPE
*NEW* Prior to launching his film APPARITION, HORROR/DESECRATION director Dante Tomaselli has another movie on tap. "My next film, SATAN'S PLAYGROUND, is an all-out scarefest with a vacationing family lost in the woods and the Jersey Devil lurking in the Pine Barrens," Tomaselli tells Fango. "I plan on shooting it this October in New Jersey, of course, with a $200,000 budget. I'm happy to report that Felissa Rose [SLEEPAWAY CAMP, HORROR] and EVIL DEAD's Ellen Sandweiss are set to star, portraying sisters.
"Tomaselli would love to cast Karen Black and Linda Blair in SATAN'S PLAYGROUND as well. As for the story, don't expect the dreamlike "illogic" of his previous films. "DESECRATION and HORROR were mazelike fear films," Tomaselli says. "They had perplexing, hallucinatory narratives and were very personal. I was trying to please myself, trying to work out my own issues, my own nightmares...Now, with SATAN'S PLAYGROUND, I'm gonna try my hand at really entertaining an audience. Unlike DESECRATION and HORROR, SATAN'S PLAYGROUND will be easy to understand. It won't be as multilayered as my first two films. After an opening car sequence, I only want two locations -- an old house and the woods. SATAN'S PLAYGROUND will be stripped down and concentrated. I want to focus on suspense and the emotion of being chased, being stalked. This next one is for all the horror fans waiting for a truly scary movie. I promise to do the job. As a lifelong horror fan myself, I understand the craving. I'm always looking for something superior to come along like THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, HALLOWEEN or THE EXORCIST. But, they just don't make them like that anymore. I want my films to represent a return to that time -- the golden age of horror -- the '70s and '80s, when movies were wilder, more creative and scarier. I feel I'm stuck in that period anyway."
In the meantime, Tomaselli's HORROR will be premiering at film festivals nationwide this Halloween.
